In California, any electrician doing work over $500 (labor + materials) must hold a state contractor's license — and the license number must appear on every ad, website, and truck. Checking takes about a minute at cslb.ca.gov:
Step 1 — Open the lookup. Go to cslb.ca.gov and click "Check a License."
Step 2 — Enter the number or name. Type the contractor's license number (ours is 1159512) or business name.
Step 3 — Read three things. (a) Status must say Active. (b) Classification must include C-10 — that's the electrical classification; a B (general building) license alone doesn't qualify someone for electrical work. (c) Check the bond and workers' compensation entries — these protect you if something goes wrong on your property.
Red flags: no license number shown anywhere in their advertising (it's required by law); "licensed" claimed but the lookup shows expired, suspended, or no record; classification doesn't include C-10. Any of these — walk away.
Our license: CSLB C-10 #1159512. Look us up yourself — we insist.
